Father, it’s January in Illinois, and the weather today has been absolutely brutal. Thank you for allowing me to live in a warm house with my family, to have sweaters and a coat to put on, a houserobe and blankets for when I’m cold even inside. Please be with the people who are living on the street tonight. Please help each of them find shelter. And please forgive me for not being the answer to this prayer, for being so short-sighted and selfish and focusing on my own wants when there are people who may not make it through this night. Please help the homeless who just need to survive the cold.
